Winter is the perfect time to cozy up indoors and dive into some creative crafting with your kids. If you're looking for an easy, festive activity to get everyone in the holiday spirit, making a Christmas wreath out of a paper plate and construction paper is a fantastic choice!

This craft is simple fun and lets your little ones practice their fine motor skills while creating a holiday decoration they can be proud of.
Materials Needed
The craft only requires two main materials, a paper plate and construction paper; however, feel free to get creative and use additional supplies if you have them.
Optional Supplies: Glitter, yarn, felt, pipe cleaners, cotton balls, or pom poms

Step by Step Tutorial on How to make a Paper Plate Christmas Wreath
Step 1: Prepare the Base:
Start by cutting out the center of the paper plate, leaving just the rim. This will be the base of your wreath.

Step 2: Cut out Strips of Paper
Cut out strips of construction paper. Vary the sizes and lengths to create dimension in your wreath
You can use only green construction paper for your wreath if you want it to look more traditional or use a variety of different colors, we used a combination of green, white, and red for our wreath.

Step 3: Assemble the Wreath:
Glue the paper strips onto the paper plate rim, overlapping them slightly to create a layered effect. Cover the entire base to make the wreath look full and vibrant.

Step 4: Add Decorations:
Feel free to add additional decorations to your Christmas wreath. We added small pom poms to our wreath but feel free to use whatever additional materials you have on hand.

Step 5: Finishing Touches:
If you'd like to hang your wreath, punch a small hole at the top and thread a ribbon or string through it. Tie a loop, and your Christmas wreath is ready to display!
Festive Alterations
Encourage your kids to customize their Christmas wreaths with these fun ideas:
Different Colors: Let your child experiment with non-traditional colors for a modern or whimsical wreath. White and blue construction paper can be used to create a frosty winter wreath. If you have glitter paper you can create whimsical and sparkly wreaths.
Textures: Use tissue paper, fabric scraps, pom poms, cotton balls or even recycled gift wrap for unique textures.
Personalization: Add your child’s name or small handprints to make the wreath extra special.
Lights: Stick on battery-operated mini LED fairy lights for a glowing touch!
